The
publisher assembled this genealogy for Internet presentation
mostly from work done by others over many years. The
publisher did some genealogical and historical research to
facilitate the assembly process, and to update older works for
those who have since died. He also added a few details from
personal experience and records. The essential genealogical
research, photos and other significant contributions came from the
following, listed from oldest to newest:
- Etta (Routh) Tucker documented
genealogies for roughly 5 generations of her family in her
bible, beginning with her Routh great-grandparents through her
nieces and nephews, including her Goldey and Taylor
cousins. It appears this was done about 1900-1915.
- Margaret (Stambaugh)
Wehr documented her mother's family in the mid 1930's,
including the Wise and Phiel ancestors. Margaret's
documentation also includes 3 of her siblings, her 28
aunts and uncles, and 60 of her first cousins. The
documentation is in narrative form with interesting incidental
details. Her work was passed down through the Harrington
family.
- Alfred Perlee, a
professional genealogist in New Jersey, documented the Perlee
family as it relates to the early Tucker and Vandervort
families. His work is documented in a 1955 letter he
wrote to Fannie (Tucker) Vander Voort.
A copy of this letter passed from her children to the Tuckers
about 1978. Some of his work is from the book Littell's
Passaic Valley.
- Emma (Rieker) Harrington
coordinated the archiving at Zoar, Ohio, of much of the
American portion of the Rieker and Breymaier families that
appears in this genealogy. This was done around the late
1950's or early 1960's. She also collected letters and
clipping all life long in an effort to document her family's
history. Some of her collection has been useful for
building this genealogy and some of it remains a challenge to
be deciphered.
- Paul Harrington, living in
Cincinnati at the time, ran across a newspaper story about the
Henry Tucker family's involvement in
local history. He made the connection across the
generations to his brother-in-law Charlie
Tucker, found a copy of the book referred to in the
article, and gave it to Charlie in the early1960's.
Although family bibles went back to Henry, Paul's discovery
provided the story of the Tucker pioneers in Ohio. The
book is The Past and Present of Mill Creek Valley...
by Henry B. Teetor (see Bibliography).
- Charlie Tucker
assembled the core of this genealogy in the mid 1970's.
For many years he made an effort to visit family grave sites
throughout the Midwest. He also examined the old records
from Zoar. While preparing his documentation, he queried
his wife Julia (Harrington) Tucker and sister Peg Tucker. These 2 pulled
numerous details out of their personal records and located
family bibles from various sides of the family that were
scrutinized for details. His work uncovered all
ancestors in 5 generations, counting his own children, and he
found a few individuals in 2 generations before that. He
also identified all cousins belonging to him or his wife,
along with their descendants. He completed this work
about 1976.
- Charlie Tucker's daughter took his final
work to the New York Public Library genealogical section and
was able to find the parents of Henry Tucker. She also
found some details about the individuals her father had
identified. This work was done about 1977. Later,
she found the children of John Tucker
in Family Records: Or, Genealogies of the First
Settlers of the Passaic Valley... by John Littell (see Bibliography). She
collected most of the pictures on this website and converted
these in 2006-07 from old prints and clippings into digital
format. Resources that had been passed down to her and
she maintained were also used to construct this website, such
as letters, clippings, charts and bibles.
- Ross Holland Routh (1907-1987) traced
several Routh families and published several genealogical books. Apparently, he
tried to connect all the Routh families in America but was
unable to do so. Ross prepared genealogical charts in
the late 1970's that include most descendants of William Routh from about 1770 forward,
including many immediate in-laws. A copy of these charts
came to the Tuckers around 1979, however it is unclear whether
he published this Routh line. Ross did not include
himself in these charts and there is no known connection
between him and the Rouths in this genealogy who descended
from William. Ross gathered most of the information on
William's descendants from interviews with those descendants,
their family bibles, and public records for Cass County,
Indiana. A few details on William
Isaac Routh and his immediate family are from History
of Cass County by Powell.
- Genealogy: Ephraim and Esther
Payn - 1964, author(s) uncertain, unpublished.
This document appears to be a compilation of work by various
Payn descendants over many decades. Contributors that
can be identified include:
- Lilla E. (Rieker)
Herl did genealogy work for her family including the
Rieker branch back to Andreas Riecker. That portion of
her work has been incorporated into this website with
permission of her daughter.
- Pauline Van der Voort, a Tucker
descendant, took up genealogy as a hobby late in life and is
responsible for some of the details in this genealogy on
the Tucker family, and many in-laws including Thrasher and
Woodward. Her work includes many colorful details.
- S. S., of Zoar, Ohio, transcribed the
Rieker and Breymaier families genealogies from the Zoar
archives back to the Tucker family in 2005. He also
included the German ancestors of these 2 families. The
sources of information about the German ancestors is unclear
but some of it apparently came from transcriptions of old
German church records.
- P. B., one of the living Harrington descendants, provided
additional details on the Breymaier, Payn and Rieker families,
including the Civil War details for Christian
Rieker. Much of it comes from old letters and
clippings collected by Emma (Rieker) Harrington (see
above). This came to the Tuckers in 2005.
- E. S., one of the living Harrington in-laws, provided many
of the pictures on this website for the Harrington family and
converted them from hard copy to electronic format in 2006.
- A. & V. W., P. S. and J. S.,
living descendants of the Van der
Voort family, provided details on their family in
2007. This includes an extensive list of burial details
collected my Mary Vandervort Wolfe
Porter.
- D. & J. M., volunteers for Random Acts of Genealogical
Kindness, contributed the picture of Ives Cemetery ("Plain
River Cemetery") in Allegan County, Michigan, as well as
updated directions for finding it as of 2007.
- M. H. T., a volunteer for Find a Grave as
well as Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, provided
pictures of Zoar Cemetery, taken in 2007. Photos
reproduced with permission.
- TomKat, a volunteer for Find a Grave, provided pictures of
Tucker Burying Ground taken in 2006. Photos reproduced
with permission.
- T. S., a living in-law to Rieker descendants who did genealogy
research for the family, provided in 2009 two similar "Rieker
Descendants Registry" lists apparently from records of Anna
Maria Rieker (see father). The
publisher of this website unified these lists from
translations done in 2009, one by T.W. of Seattle, and the
other from old Sutterlin script by Prof. M. Z., a "native
Berliner."
- M. B., one of the living Harrington descendants, provided
access for the publisher in 2009 to the Harrington family
archives of records, photos and bibles that she
conserves. Several items cited in these credits came
from this collection.
- C. A. B., partner to the publisher, for research and
photography beginning 2009.
