This lineage includes all children
of Christian Rieker (g.17) and his known RIECKER ancestors.
The earlier RIECKER portion of this lineage is from modern
research into several sources. The later RIEKER portion of
this lineage is based on family records.
Johann Jacob RIECKER changed his family name to RIEKER sometime
after he came to America. The RIECKER spelling is the
predominant one used earlier in Germany and the RIEKER spelling is
the predominate one used later in America. For both, the
"IE" is pronounced as a hard "E" using German phonetics, like in
Riesling or wiener. The RIECKER and RICKER spellings appear
on tombstones for burials as late as the turn of the 20
th
Century in
Zoar Cemetery. The
REIKER spelling appears on tombstones for burials into the mid 20
th
Century in
Rose Hill Burial Park.
The family is from
Wurttemberg,
Germany, through Johann Jacob Riecker (g.16) who immigrated with
most of his children to
Zoar, Ohio
(Tuscarawas County).
This Rieker/Riecker genealogy lineage is mainly ancestral to
Harrington.
