Notes  Zoar was settled in 1817 by Germans from Wurttemberg who were separatists from the Lutheran Church.  The Society of Separatists of Zoar, which operated the community as a commune, was formed in 1819.  The Society of Separatists of Zoar dissolved in 1898.
