History
The town of Bergen was founded in Bergen County in 1660. The
town became part of Hudson County when Hudson County was formed
out of Bergen County in 1840. The town disincorporated. In
1879 the land became part of Jersey City. The original town
of Bergen was centered near what is now Bergen Square in Jersey
City, Hudson County.
